Coral Gables, dubbed the “City Beautiful,” is a stately suburb steeped in history. It was founded in the 1920s by real estate developer George Merrick and is one of the earliest and most successfully planned residential communities in Florida. Coral Gables is characterized by its abundance of Mediterranean architecture, ivy-covered houses, wide tree-lined streets, lush waterways, fountains and landscaped plazas, and historical landmarks. Coral Gables is also home to the University of Miami, a renowned private research institution, founded in 1925 and the Coral Gables Youth Center, a popular recreational facility for both youth and adults. Nature lovers will find Coral Gables to be a dream as well with access to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (80 sprawling acres of colorful, lush rainforest and coastal habitat) and Matheson Hammock Park and Marina on Old Cutler Road (630 acres of waterfront access and trails).
